Craft Activities
Valentine’s Day is the perfect time to get creative with your kids!
There are so many craft activities that can be both fun and educational.
You know I love it when you can learn and laugh!
I have separated the crafts by age, but look at all of them, with crafts it is not age so much as ability.
5 Valentine’s Day Crafts for Younger Children:
1. Handprint Love Bugs: Have kids dip their hands in paint and create heart-shaped bugs by adding googly eyes and pipe cleaner antennae.
2. Valentine’s Day Wreath: Provide kids with paper plates or cardboard rings and help them decorate with cut-out hearts, ribbons, and other colorful decorations.
This craft can be taken to higher levels by changing the foundation.
For example, start with a styrofoam ring and add foam, fabric, ribbon, etc and this becomes a much “older” wreath.
3. Love Bug Pencil Toppers: I used to make “frustration pencils” with the long “hair” fabric and loved them.
This kind of reminded me of those.
Using pom-poms, pipe cleaners, and googly eyes, help kids create cute love bug pencil toppers that can be attached to their pencils.
4. Heart-Shaped Sun Catchers: Cut out heart shapes from colorful tissue paper and help kids stick them onto contact paper.
Hang the sun catchers on windows to catch the sunlight.
5. Heart Collage: Provide kids with a variety of materials such as colored paper, ribbon, fabric scraps, buttons, and stickers. Let them create heart collages by arranging and gluing the materials onto a larger piece of paper.
Here are 5 Valentine’s crafts suitable for kids ages 9-12:
1. String Art Heart: Provide kids with a wooden board, nails, and colorful strings.
Help them create a heart shape by hammering in the nails and then weaving the strings around them.
2. Heart-Shaped Dreamcatchers: Help kids create heart-shaped dreamcatchers using embroidery hoops, yarn, and beads.
They can customize their dreamcatchers with feathers and ribbons.
3. Paper Quilled Hearts: Teach kids the art of paper quilling and assist them in creating intricate heart shapes using quilling paper strips.
They can be framed or turned into cards. (Look this up-these are amazing!)
4. Valentine’s Day Mason Jar Lanterns:
Provide kids with mason jars, tissue paper, and glue.
Help them create lanterns by covering the jars with heart-shaped tissue paper cut-outs and placing a tea light inside.
5. Wire-Wrapped Heart Jewelry: Teach children basic wire-wrapping techniques and help them create heart-shaped pendants or earrings using colored wire and beads.
Do you have some teens or preteens in the house, who you think will say “Bah humbug” at Valentine Crafts?
5 Valentine’s crafts that are fun and engaging for teens:
1. Origami Heart Garland:
Origami can be as easy or difficult as you want it to be.
This activity can be turned into making a wreath, mobile, or hanging beautiful hearts from the ceiling.
2. Personalized Phone Cases:
From water bottles to laptops, kids (teens included) are personalizing and “sticking” their stuff!
3. Love-inspired Tie-Dye
4. Resin Heart-Shaped Keychains: Nothing speaks to a teen like the car.
5. Hand-Painted Canvas Shoes:
These painted canvas shoes are a major deal-I have seen them in galleries!
