HIstorical Fiction/Western/YA 3 Books in the Series: A fun series that throws in a little history. Lee can sense gold in the world around her. Veins deep in the earth and mall nuggets in a stream. “The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek” by Kim Michele Richardson Historical Fiction ,Stand Alone I had no idea there blue-skinned people in Kentucky. I also knew nothing of the Pack Horse library service of the 1930’s. This book grabbed me from the start. It addresses being judged for what you look like and what you do or do not have. It talks about the fierce pride in becoming something no one expects and the bravery to get there. *This will also appear in my “Book Club” list

“The Queen of the Tearling” by Erika Johansen
Fantasy/Dystopia/YA
4 Books in the Series
Amazing series! I had no idea it was YA simply because it was
graphically violent.
The online descriptions are very long-if interested, read them!
Here is a “teaser”:

“Fool’s Assassin” by Robin Hobb Epic Fantasy/Magic/YA 3 Books in the Series I did not know this series could get better! The story of Fitz and the Fool continue and does not disappoint! A man who has risked much for his king and lost more… One Winterfest night a messenger arrives to seek out Fitz, but mysteriously disappears, leaving nothing but a blood-trail. Suddenly Fitz’s violent old life erupts into the peace of his new world, and nothing and no one is safe.
“Unwind” by Neil Shusterman Dystopian/Profound/YA 4 Books in the Series: I am still thinking about this book years later. n a society where unwanted teens are salvaged for their body parts, three runaways fight the system that would “unwind” them. This book looks at “right to life” and “choice” and puts both upside down. I am a better person because I have read this book. **This book will also appear on my “Book Club” list

“Munmun” by Jesse Andrews
Science Fiction/YA
I did not want to like this book. I was drawn into the story, but not the
characters at first. The entire story seemed so implausible, even for a
science fiction/dystopian type. I started paying attention, it was not that
hard, the parallels are not masked that deeply. This book says a lot
about the rich vs the poor in a world that shows clear lines of
inequality. This book is done in adventure, tragedy and comedy to
bring the message to us all.

“Spider’s Bite” by Jennifer Estep Urban Fantasy/Magic 17 Books in the Series I’m the most feared assassin in the South. As a Stone elemental, I can hear everything from the whispers of the gravel beneath my feet to the vibrations of the soaring Appalachian Mountains above me. Now that a ruthless Air elemental has double-crossed me and killed my handler, I’m out for revenge. And I’ll exterminate anyone who gets in my way — good or bad. I may look hot, but I’m still one of the bad guys.

“Moon Called” by Patricia Briggs

12 Books in the Series: Definitely ranks among the favorite

Washington State. But Mercy’s two worlds are colliding. A half-starved
teenage boy arrives at her shop looking for work, only to reveal that

“Scent of Shadows” by Vicki Pettersson
Fantasy
7 in the series
This reads almost like a comic book with light vs. dark. All of the “super
heroes” have abilities based on their zodiac signs. This gives the book
a different twist. The group fights against the evils based in “Sin City.”
I liked this series simply because it had a different premise: zodiac.

“You Slay Me” by Katie MacAlister Magic/Comedy/Romance 5 Books in the Series. Aisling Grey is kind of a ditz. The entire series is pretty brainless. And yet, I loved it. I kept coming back for more. I could totally escape in dragon worries. I adore the demon who comes in the form of the Newfoundland Dog and keeps Aisling company.

“First Grave on the Right” by Darynda Jones
Paranormal Romance/Comedy
15 Books in the Series
Probably the funniest series I have read-love it!
Charley Davidson: part-time private investigator and full-time Grim
Reaper. Charley sees dead people. . And it’s her job to convince them
to ‘go into the light.’ But when these very dead people have died
under less than ideal circumstances (i.e. murder), sometimes they
want Charley to bring the bad guys to justice.

“Dark Fever” by Karen Marie Moning Dark Fantasy 11 Books in the Series: One of my favorite series! My philosophy is pretty simple-any day nobody’s trying to kill me is a good day in my book. I haven’t had many good days lately. MacKayla Lane’s life is good. She’s your perfectly ordinary twenty-first-century woman. At least that was what she thought until her sister is murdered.
“Body Movers” by Stephanie Bond Romantic Suspense 11 Books in the Series This has been a series that has stuck with me that I enjoyed. It is also a series that I could never find again! I was so glad to find it for these recommendations because I finished at book 4! Atlanta debutante Carlotta Wren was raised with a silver spoon in her mouth. So at 18, when her parents skip town after being accused of a white-collar crime and leave her to raise her younger brother Wesley, her entire world is upended. She becomes a mother to her brother, has a job moving dead bodies and evading loan sharks.
“Written in Red” by Anne Bishop Contemporary Fantasy 5 Books in the Series: A new twist on “paranormals” I liked this a lot. As a cassandra sangue, or blood prophet, Meg Corbyn can see the future when her skin is cut—a gift that feels more like a curse. Meg’s Controller keeps her enslaved so he can have full access to her visions. But when she escapes, the only safe place Meg can hide is at the Lakeside Courtyard—a business district operated by the Others. The Others are your typical fantasy characters, however, the war is on and they do not like humans.

“Prodigal Son” by Dean Koontz
Suspense/Horror, 5 Books in the Series. He is Deucalion, a tattooed man of mysterious origin, a sleight-ofreality artist who has traveled the centuries with a secret worse than
death. He arrives in New Orleans as a serial killer stalks the streets.
Meet police detective Carson O’Connor and her partner, Michael
Maddison, who are tracking the slayer but will soon discover signs of
something far more terrifying: an entire race of killers who are much
more–and less–than human and, deadliest of all, their deranged,
near-immortal maker: Victor Helios–once known as Frankenstein.

“The Wolf Road” by Beth Lewis I call it a horror novel, listed as thriller/suspense I never saw it coming…any of it. I was horrified at the end. And yet, I wanted a book to come after this one I was enthralled with the story and the characters. Elka is orphaned at seven years old. She wanders into a loner’s hunting camp and he takes her in and teaches her how to survive. She comes to love him and call him father. One day, she discovers he is a killer and she escapes, using the skills he taught her to survive. Dead people keep turning up all around her, it seems her dad won’t let her go. *This book is also on the “Book Club” list.
